Affiliate disclosure

The short version

Some links on The Fine Address are affiliate links. If you click one and make a booking, the partner pays us a commission. You pay the same price either way. The commission comes from the partner's marketing budget, not from an increase in your rate.

Which links are affiliate links

Any link that takes you to a booking partner to search or reserve something — hotels, flights, tours and activities, airport transfers, car hire, travel insurance, and eSIM data. These appear as buttons, the booking cards inside guides, the "worth booking" panels beside articles, and the deals page.

Links to a hotel's own website, to a restaurant, to a public transport operator, or to a reference source are not affiliate links and earn us nothing.

What it does not change

It does not change what we recommend, the order we recommend it in, or what we criticise. Concretely, that means:

• No property, airline or operator can pay to appear in a guide.
• No partner reviews or approves a guide before it publishes.
• Where the best answer earns us nothing — book direct, take the train, skip the tour and walk — we say that.
• We criticise properties we hold affiliate relationships with, because the alternative is worthless advice.

Why we use this model

The alternatives are worse. Display advertising rewards volume over quality and makes pages unpleasant to read. Sponsored content puts the advertiser in the editor's chair. A paywall would keep the guides from most of the people who would find them useful. Affiliate commission is the only model we have found where our incentive — you having a genuinely good trip and trusting us next time — points the same direction as yours.

This disclosure exists to comply with consumer protection rules on advertising and endorsements, including the guidance issued by the US Federal Trade Commission and the UK Competition and Markets Authority. Affiliate links on this site carry the appropriate technical markers, and any commercial relationship is disclosed at the point of the link as well as here.
