Dubai works brilliantly as a 48-hour interruption to a longer journey and less well as a two-week holiday. Treated as a layover it is superb: a hotel fifteen minutes from the terminal, a morning in the old town on the creek, an afternoon in the water, dinner somewhere absurd and a flight out. Treated as a fortnight it becomes repetitive and expensive.
